Detecting Conflict-Free Argumentative or Abductive Knowledge Bases

This paper presents a simple method that reduces the problem of detecting conflict-free assumption-based knowledge bases to the problem of testing satisfiability.

Unsupervised Conflict-Free Ontology Evolution Without Removing Axioms

In the beginning of the Semantic Web, ontologies were usually constructed once by a single knowledge engineer and then used as a static conceptualization of some domain. Nowadays, knowledge bases are increasingly dynamically evolving and incorporate new knowledge from different heterogeneous domains – some of which is even contributed by casual users (i.e., non-knowledge engineers) or even soft...

An argumentation system for reasoning with LPm

Inconsistent knowledge-bases can entail useful conclusions when using the three-valued semantics of the paraconsistent logic LP. However, the set of conclusions entailed by a consistent knowledge-base under the three-valued semantics is smaller than set of conclusions entailed by the knowledge-base under a two-valued semantics. Preferring conflict-minimal interpretations of the logic LP; i.e., ...

Quota-Based Merging Operators for Stratified Knowledge Bases

Current merging methods for stratified knowledge bases are often based on the commensurability assumption, i.e. all knowledge bases share a common scale. However, this assumption is too strong in practice. In this paper, we propose a family of operators to merge stratified knowledge bases without commensurability assumption. Our merging operators generalize the quota operators, a family of impo...

Normative Systems require Hybrid Knowledge Bases ( Extended Abstract )

In this extended abstract we borrow an example from the Portuguese Penal Code to advocate that norms used to regulate interaction in human societies, just as those used in multi-agent systems, require the joint use of the features based on the Closed World Assumption of rules in Logic Programming and those based on the Open World Assumption of ontologies in Description Logics, all of which are ...
